How does refinancing my car work?

Refinancing a car loan is similar to refinancing a home loan. The refinance process allows for consumers to replace an existing auto loan by negotiating a new loan, typically with a new lender. The new loan allows the consumer to potentially negotiate a better rate, lengthen the repayment term, and remove or add products like vehicle service contracts.

Can I refinance my car right after I bought it?

Yes, you can usually refinance your car at any time after purchasing it from a dealer. Keep in mind car dealerships often add services and incentives which may end when you refinance the car. This applies to finance-related things like cash back programs, lessee deals, dealership cash offers, rewards programs, and other related things. This does not apply to things like GAP insurance, manufacturer's vehicle warranties, and dealership service contracts.

Can I pre-qualify to refinance my car?

Yes, it is possible to be pre-qualified for auto refinancing. Are there any fees involved with my refi?

Caribou provides services to the lender to help close your loan, such as processing documents and retitling your vehicle. Caribou charges the lender a $499 processing fee solely to cover the costs of these services. Your lender may include the $499 processing fee or other fees in your refinanced loan amount and in the APR that your lender will disclose to you.
